Our fabulously talented and always prolific Ian Crighton will be presenting a VR workshop at the next Cross Industry Meetup on the 23rd August:
There is an African proverb that goes “If you want to go fast, go alone; if you want to go far – go together”. So, we’ve decided to go together. For the second year in a row, three Latvian Tech communities – Gamedev.lv, XR.LV, and CGImage – along with the floating Arts Centre Noass have teamed up to make something bigger than a meetup. We’ve deemed it a festival. And at this festival, keeping in touch with going together, we’ve gathered five speakers from various countries – Lithuania, UK, Finland, and Germany. And to top it all off, we’re going to see if the ship withstands dancing to the music by Demaui (AKA Māris Dejus) and Kristaps Puķītis from Dirty Deal Audio.
There will be four speakers on the main stage, the first of which is a former Swiss knife at the mobileAR start-up Grib, and an ambassador from the Finnish community XR Nation – Joh Orengo. Just a tad longer is the road travelled by the sound design specialist Thor Gunnar Mýrdal from Germany. Lastly, the sum of the distance travelled by the third and fourth speaker is by far the greatest. One of them is Vitalijus Zukas – the co-founder and CEO of the VFX production company OKTA studio, which has its roots deep in the Latvian industry as well. And what’s left is Thomas Tumosa; he’ll give you an insight into how they put in quest into Oculus Quest.
If you want to get some hands-on action instead of just listening, our furthest guest is Ian Crighton from Scotland. He’ll host a workshop about digital art and show you his workflow by creating something in VR right in front of you.
Maybe a dialogue is what you hoped for? We’ve got you covered! You can arm yourself with a beverage of your choice at the Noass bar and network with everyone present. Is it the opposite you want, and you yearn for somewhere far away? Portāls will help you out on this one – go for a VR experience in their portable arcade. Oh, and there’s an option to be social without talking – you can boost the stats on your step counter when the Dirty Deal Audio artists Demaui (AKA Māris Dejus) and Kristaps Pukitis will be performing well into the night.
